Welcome to the Ski Mechanics Learning Center!
The first phase of the Ski Mechanics Learning Center (SMLC) is focused specifically on Alpine Bindings. This digital education is the replacement for SIA’s previous training roadshow, Ski Mechanics Workshop. SIA has collaborated with the leading alpine binding manufacturers and industry risk managers to produce relevant and engaging content with this new learning tool.
It is important to note, that in this first year, this program is designed to educate retail and rental employees. This is not a certification.
The focus of the Alpine Bindings module is to assist the new or renewing ski shop technicians to understand the process, learn the shop practices, and observe the technical skills needed to inspect, adjust, install, test and dispatch alpine ski bindings.
The first phase of the Ski Mechanics Learning Center will focus on Risk Management and will provide training on the following:
- Customer Assessment/Work Ticket Documentation
- Pre-Installation/Tool Use & Care
- Component Inspection, Binding Installation
- Release Value Selection
- System Inspection/Trouble Shooting
- Release Test
- Final Documentation, Dispatch, and Post-Accident Reporting
Future phases will include back-shop service training for tuning, waxing, and retail-floor product sales training and matching, as well as AT and snowboard modules.
THIS IS NOT A CERTIFICATION. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL MANUFACTURER AS NEEDED.

SKI SHOP OWNERS AND TECHNICIANS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO CONSULT EACH BINDING MANUFACTURER’S BINDING TECHNICAL MANUALS TO ENSURE THAT THE PROCEDURES CONTAINED IN THE SKI MECHANICS LEARNING CENTER CURRICULUM ARE CORRECT AND APPROPRIATE.
